New Zealand 2025

Rach was speaking in Queenstown, for the Australasian Society for Developmental Paediatrics Annual Conference, so we decided to stay a few extra days. From time with family in Arrowtown, to me experiencing proper snow - first time ever! - up on Coronet Peak, to our cross-country cheese roll discovery tour, it was all pretty magical. For the record, “Coffee Bomb” in Garston has the greatest cheese rolls. To get to Milford Sound, we literally drove through a mountain (the tunnel must have been made by the Dwarves of Middle Earth), and then took a ship into what felt like the water-kingdom of Poseidon. The veins of the mountain giants were white-mist and ice water.

We didn’t always get enough sleep, and we still had work to do in the gaps, but we both felt wildly present in every moment. It was only 7 days from landing to leaving, but it felt like eternal time, like we’re still there now, like the snow is still melting in our shoes.
